Tropical depression may spare PH — Pagasa

The tropical cyclone forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) may not directly affect the country, the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

Gladys Saludes of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that based on forecast models, the tropical depression may recurve towards Japan.

The tropical depression, which will be locally named Jenny, is forecast to enter the Par by Wednesday or Thursday. It is expected to exit PAR on Sunday.

Saludes said the cyclone was last spotted 2,200 kilometers east of Luzon and packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour. It was slowly moving west northwest.

“It may intensify but only as a tropical storm at most because it is weak due to forecast models,” she said.

It was not seen to make landfall or affect the country, Saludes added.
