MetroBriefs: SMC offers free bus rides on 125th year

/ 02:08 AM September 21, 2015

SAN MIGUEL Corp. (SMC) is offering free bus rides to commuters on Edsa starting today, Sept. 21, as part of the various community service programs it will launch for its 125th anniversary.

“This is an initiative that we believe resonates with our new slogan “Your world made better.” We want to make a positive impact on the communities that we serve—one good deed at a time, one person at a time,” SMC president Ramon S. Ang said.

The company has tapped Metrolink Bus Corp. to provide eight buses that will ply the Malanday-Ninoy Aquino International Airport route and vice versa between 5:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The buses will be marked with SMC’s tagline “Your world made better” and the hashtag #SMCbetterworld to differentiate them from the other buses.

“City life can be very stressful especially when you are stuck in traffic and have to be somewhere else at a specific time of the day. In which case, we thought of making it convenient for riders to commute and make them feel good inside the bus,” Ang said.

The buses will be loaded with free wifi, limited breakfast and snacks from the company’s food group as well as minor corporate giveaways. Surprise volunteer guests will also take the bus at certain times of the day to entertain passengers.

SMC will also deploy employee volunteers to assist commuters. Earlier, it relaunched its Team Malasakit employee volunteerism program to align with the company’s vision of making the world better.
