CEBU CITY—A man who was charged for 5 counts of rape was killed by policemen from Pardo Police Station when he allegedly tried to escape and brandished his gun in Sitio (sub-village) Kalubihan, Barangay (village) Tabunok, Talisay City in southern Cebu at 4:30 a.m. on Friday.
Norman Maramara, 50, a resident of Bulacao Pardo and was in the top 10 most wanted criminals under the area of jurisdiction of the Pardo Police Station in Cebu City, was killed on the spot.
Chief Inspector Michael Angelo Beltran, chief of the Pardo Police Station, said Maramara was also believed to be a member of a gun-for-hire group because he was involved in previous shooting incidents.
Beltran said they just wanted to implement the warrant of arrest for 5 counts of rape issued by Judge Jacinto Fajardo Jr. of the Talisay City Regional Trial Court Branch 66 early Friday.
When the police knocked on the door of Maramara’s rented room, Beltran said nobody answered. He said they then identified themselves as policemen but Maramara jumped off from an exit door while brandishing his 9mm pistol.
The policemen, who surrounded the house, shot the suspect before he could fire a shot.
Beltran said they have conducted one month surveillance before the operation early Friday. Jhunnex Napallacan/RAM
