UP still top PH university despite slip in QS World Rankings

The “Big Four” universities in the country remain to be among the top 800 universities in the world but all suffered a slide in their rankings, the results of a global university survey revealed on Tuesday.

According to the results of the 2015-2016 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, the University of the Philippines (UP) remains to be the leading university in the country. However, it now dropped to the 401 to 410 mark from 367th place last year.

Ateneo de Manila University is still in second place but it slid to the 501 to 550 bracket from last year’s 461-470 bracket.

Meanwhile, De La Salle University (DLSU) also suffered a dip in its ranking as it slid to the 701+ bracket from placing 651-700 last year.

University of Santo Tomas joins DLSU in the 701+ bracket.

Despite the slump in their overall rankings, UP, Ateneo, and DLSU all placed within the top 300 universities worldwide in terms of “Employer Reputation”: UP placed 120th , followed by Ateneo at 259th place, and DLSU at 292nd place.

UP also lead Philippine universities in terms of “Academic Reputation,” placing 257th overall.

The 2015-2016 QS World University Rankings is the 12th edition of the survey, with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) leading the survey. MIT is followed by Harvard, Cambridge, Stanford and California Institute of Techonology.

National University of Singapore placed 12th, making it the leading Asian university in the said survey.

The QS World University Rankings considers six indicators in determining rank: academic reputation (40 percent), employer reputation (10 percent), faculty student ratio (20 percent), citations per faculty (20 percent), international students (5 percent), and international faculty (5 percent).
