IPOH — A businessman is appealing to his teenage granddaughter whom he believed had run away with her tomboy lover to come home.

Hew Hoon Yean said his granddaughter Poh Yee, 18, left home on Aug. 11, leaving her 18-month-old son with family members.

The 68-year-old businessman said the toddler is now pining for his mother and has been asking for her every day.

The boy’s father works in Singapore.

He said Poh Yee changed after returning from a short trip to Kuala Lumpur in July and family members also noticed that she was more secretive.

“She was constantly on Facebook and whenever she received a call, she would quickly go away from the family to answer the call.

“We found her behavior strange but did not think much of it, until her disappearance,” he said at a press conference held by Perak Barisan Nasional public services and complaints center chief Mohd Rawi Abdullah here on Saturday.

Hew said since leaving home his granddaughter has not called home even once, not even to ask about her son.

He made a police report on Sept. 9 after all efforts to trace Poh Yee failed.

Hew said the family only found out that Poh Yee was romantically involved with a tomboy after she left.

He said according to some of Poh Yee’s friends, the person’s photo was in her Facebook page under the name “my important person” and that they have been exchanging love messages online.

“Poh Yee loves her son and cares for him a lot. But since she left home, she did not even call back,” he said.

The family now wants the police to take action against the tomboy for running away with a married woman.

“I don’t want other girls to be cheated,” said Hew.
