Couple shot dead in front of Pangasinan chapel
DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — A man and his wife were shot dead by a lone gunman in front of a chapel in Urbiztondo town in Pangasinan on Sunday, police said.
Arturo and Delia Pinto of Barangay Malayo were attacked by a gunman when they alighted from their tricycle at 7 a.m., said Chief Insp. Wilfredo Cabanayan, Urbiztondo police chief.
They intended to join the Sunday service.
The gunman shot Arturo, who was driving the tricycle, killing him on the spot, said Cabanayan. Delia was shot as she fled toward the chapel.
Police said she died on the way to a hospital but not before she named the suspect, Tyron Velasquez, who was arrested at his house in Dalanguiring village in Urbiztondo.
Cabanayan said a land dispute could have triggered the attack on the couple.
