Retired judge killed in Cebu town fire
CEBU CITY—A retired judge was killed in a fire that gutted his house in Honeyville 2, Barangay (village) Quiot, Cebu City at past 4 a.m. on Saturday.
SFO1 Edwin Handayan of the Pardo Fire Sub Station identified the fatality as Delfin Decierdo, 77, who was judge of the municipal trial court in Sibonga town, southern Cebu.
The fire was believed to have been caused by an unattended lighted candle at the mini-chapel located at the sala of Decierdo’s two-story house at 4:15 a.m., Handayan said.
Handayan said Decierdo was inside his room when the fire broke out but could not get out because the room was beside the chapel.
Neighbors said they heard the judge shouting for help as the fire engulfed the house.
The fire was put under control at 4:35 a.m. The firefighters found the charred remains of the judge at around 6 a.m. Jhunnex Napallacan/RAM
