5 killed, 8 injured in Subic shipyard accident

MANILA, Philippines—Five shipyard workers in Subic died while eight others were injured after the platform they were standing on fell Friday, police said.

Chief Superintendent Edgardo Ladao, provincial director of the Region 3 police, said that the steel platform inside the Keppel Subic Shipyard in Barangay Cawag, Subic, Zambales, fell at around 10:20 a.m..

The injured workers were rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes International Hospital in Olongapo City and were undergoing medical treatment.

The ramp was being used as a bridge for the MV Tombarra, which was being repaired by the workers, he said.
