After a new traffic plan was implemented on Edsa, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) laid out 17 Mabuhay lanes or express routes to and from various parts of the metropolis in preparation for heavy traffic during the Christmas season.
In an announcement on its Facebook page, the MMDA said these designated loops were tailored for private vehicles to avoid heavy traffic in some major roads in Metro Manila, especially Edsa during the Christmas holidays.

The MMDA assistant general manager, Emerson Carlos, told members of the media on Tuesday that the agency started clearing the designated Mabuhay lanes, which would serve as alternate roads for motorists.
He said the Department of the Interior and Local Government had also coordinated with Metro Manila mayors and barangay officials to help clear these express lanes.
MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino earlier said there were some changes in some of these lanes, which had been identified before because of major road projects like the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Elevated Expressway and the Magallanes Interchange rehabilitation.—Maricar B. Brizuela
