SC asked to stop VAT on toll fees

MANILA, Philippines — A taxpayers’ group has filed a petition for a temporary restraining order (TRO) in the Supreme Court against the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) on toll fees.

Sonny Malunez, spokesman of the Taxpayers Unity Against Toll hike on South Luzon Expressway (TUTOL SLEX), said Friday that they have stronger evidence showing that it would be illegal to collect VAT on toll fees.

The National Council for Commuter Protection (NCCP), led by Elvira Medina, joined them in the filing of the petition.

The collection of VAT on toll fees at the SLEX and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) took effect October 1.
