NPA leader’s daughter walks out of prison
LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines—Andrea Rosal, daughter of the late New People’s Army spokesperson Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal, finally regained her freedom Monday evening, a human rights lawyer said.
In a text message, lawyer Edre Olalia, secretary general of National Union of People’s Lawyers, said Rosal was released from the Taguig City jail-female dormitory in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, at around 8:30 p.m.
Rosal was met by NUPL lawyers handling her case, Maria Kristina Conti and Donna Escio, and by members of human rights group Karapatan from Southern Tagalog, Olalia said.
Earlier on Monday, Judge Rodolfo Obnamia Jr. from Regional Trial Court -Branch 64 in Mauban, Quezon, ordered Rosal’s release after he ruled that the his decision on Aug. 6 to junk the murder charge against her has become final and executory.
Andrea will face the media at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in Quezon City, according to Conti.Delfin T. Mallari Jr.
