Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has been scheduled to pray over Liberal Party standard bearer and interior secretary Mar Roxas on Monday night.
In an interview with reporters after receiving the endorsement of several civil society organizations in Quezon City, the interior secretary confirmed that he would meet with the prelate that night.
However, he did not provide details about the meeting, saying he was only invited to be prayed over.
“As I understand, it is a pray over… I am the ‘prayee,’ not the one leading the prayer,” Roxas said.
Asked if his prayers would include guidance in seeking the perfect running mate, the interior secretary replied: “Always, we always seek guidance from the Almighty in all that we do.”
Sen. Grace Poe has not given her answer to the Liberal Party’s invitation to be their candidate for vice president in next year’s elections.
Roxas maintained that whoever his running mate would be, the Liberal Party’s tandem would always pursue the Daang Matuwid program begun by President Aquino.
The interior secretary said he was also open to having Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo as his running mate on the basis of her qualifications. Robredo is the widow of the late interior secretary Jesse Robredo, who died in a plane crash.
“I think she is qualified. She has experience. As a lawyer she did not use her knowledge for big firms, she helped her town mates who cannot afford legal representation. Her record in helping others is spotless,” Roxas added.
