THERE WERE NO surprises this time around as the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers beat the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 104-81, in the juniors division of the 2011 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
For all the upsets that CIT-U has registered in the second round, there would be none that would be happening yesterday afternoon as the UV set the tone early and then blew the game wide open in the third canto en route to capturing the lopsided victory .
The win gave the league-leading Baby Lancers a 14-1 (win-loss) record, a half-game ahead of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles.
The Green Lancers also needed the momentum heading to their much-anticipated matchup with the Magis Eagles tomorrow.
CIT-U, which dropped out of contention for the next round, suffered their eighth loss in 14 games.
UV was led by the 23 points of Matthew Oche, the 14 of Paul Desiderio and the 13 of King delos Santos.
Mark Kong, CIT-U’s young lefty center, had 20 while Jerald Delima added 19 markers. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
