3 Pacific supertyphoons won’t affect PH–Pagasa

The three major hurricanes sweeping across the Pacific Ocean at the same time will not likely hit the country based on their current track, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is also monitoring the three storms or hurricanes named Ignacio, Kilo and Jimena although they are not forecast to hit land.

All three reached Category 4 before Ignacio weakened into a Category 2 hurricane.

“These will not enter the Philippine area of responsibility. They are not going in our direction,” Pagasa meteorologist Benison Estraneja said.

Weather agencies said this was first time that three major storms emerged simultaneously in the Pacific which is currently affected by a strong El Niño episode.

The low pressure area east of Luzon that has brought rains over the region since late last week has dissipated Wednesday morning, Pagasa said.

But most of the country will continue to have light to moderate rains due to the presence of the intertropical convergence zone, it said.
