Three men were arrested after they tried to rob a man who turned out to be a police officer in Muntinlupa City early Wednesday.
Insp. Bob Belver, assigned at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and a resident of Alabang, told authorities that he had just gotten off a bus at the Alabang viaduct around 1 a.m. when four men approached him. At knifepoint, they declared a holdup, and grabbed his bag.
When Belver shouted that he was a policeman, two of the suspects tried to stab him. This prompted the lawman to shoot them, hitting them in the legs. Two policemen on patrol in the area noticed the commotion and rushed to the aid of the police official.
They managed to arrest three of the suspects but the fourth escaped. A police report identified those arrested as Ruel Poqiaz, 20; Ray Valencia, 19; and Kim Olofernes, 21, all residents of Alabang.
A backpack carried by the suspects lead to recovery of two cell phones, a flashlight, assorted clothing and ammunition. Also seized were two kitchen knives.
The suspects were taken to the Muntinlupa police station following their treatment at a hospital. The police said that charges were being prepared against them. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
