TEHRAN, Iran — The head of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard is saying the U.S. is still the “Great Satan” as local media is reporting police have raided shops distributing American, Israeli and British apparel.

The comments by Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, reported by the official Guard website on Tuesday, said that “the enmity against Iranian nation by the U.S. has not lessened and it has been increased.” However, he reportedly said Iran is not worried about any military threat from the U.S.

His comments came as the state news agency IRNA quoted Tehran’s police chief, Gen. Hossein Sajedinia, as saying his officers detained several people for distributing the flag apparel, as well as items bearing Satanic symbols. Such crackdowns on Western items are common in Iran. TVJ
