Fund drive for Ifugao

BAGUIO CITY—Civic groups here have been passing the hat for donations to help isolated residents of Ifugao.

Donations have also been sought by officials of some interior towns of Mt. Province, whose predicaments are being reported belatedly in government damage assessments in the wake of Typhoons “Pedring” and “Quiel.”

The University of the Philippines Baguio and the Philippine Association for Intercultural Development (Pafid) in Manila have offered to act as custodians for donations meant for Ifugao.

In a note to faculty members, UP Baguio Chancellor Priscilla Macansantos said: “As those down south have their hands full with flooding in Bulacan and Central Luzon, we in Baguio should do our share for Ifugao which seems to be most badly hit in our region. What’s needed? Rice, sardines, noodles, batteries, flashlights, candles, maybe blankets… Most of the goods will have to be brought by foot to isolated barangays (villages)… All donations will be [fetched from] UP Baguio on Sunday (October 9) to be brought to a pick-up point somewhere near the damaged bridge on the road to Ifugao.”
