They did their best, but their best was not good enough.

A thousand members of the Iglesia Cristo (INC) failed to stop Secretary Leila de Lima from leaving the Department of Justice (DOJ) compound on Thursday.

A black vehicle that went out of the DOJ compound at Padre Faura in Manila was met by protest from angry INC members, but video showed that the woman on board was not the Justice secretary.

Sources said De Lima managed to get out through a “connecting door” between the DOJ and the Supreme Court.

Protesters were heard shouting “Iiyak na ‘yan.”

INC members, who urged De Lima to focus on “more important” issues, trooped to the DOJ after receiving reports that charges of serious illegal detention will be filed against their leaders.

Excommunicated INC member Isais Samson Jr., who is being accused by the INC leadership of writing a blog on supposed corruption in the church, earlier filed a serious illegal detention complaint against INC leaders for keeping him and his family inside their home for days.
