Interior Secretary Mar Roxas will meet with members of the National Unity Party (NUP) Wednesday evening to try and solicit their support for the 2016 presidential race.
NUP vice president and Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. said the meeting would be held at the Gloria Maris restaurant in Cubao, Quezon City.
“We will be listening to Secretary Mar [tell us] his program of government, and his plans in the event he is elected President,” Barzaga told a press briefing.
“On my side, I have been saying publicly that I’m voting for Mar Roxas,” Barzaga said.
He said many other NUP members were also inclined to support the Liberal Party standard-bearer. “I have been talking to some of our members and most of them are supporting Mar Roxas,” he said.
The NUP was formed in 2011 after internal discord prompted several members of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Lakas party to break away and set up their own political party.—DJ Yap
