To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Edsa revolution next year, the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation (RPDEV) with Caelestis Productions is launching “EDSA@30: How The EDSA People Power Revolution Transformed the Philippines,” an 8-month revolving lecture series that aims to increase awareness of the historic events of 1986, especially among today’s youth.
EDSA@30 will visit 16 educational institutions in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pangasinan, Cebu and Davao beginning this month up to February next year.
The lectures will be in three parts: A historical perspective of the Edsa revolution by Dr. Victoria Apuan; a film showing of “Laban: The Meaning of Edsa,” produced by Sally Jo Bellosillo of Caelestis Productions; and an open forum between students and a panel of participants in the historic revolution.
The first school is ICCT Colleges in Cainta, Rizal, on Aug. 26. Edsa heroes panelists for this first lecture series are former President Fidel V. Ramos, former Interior Secretary Rafael Alunan and Edsa broadcaster Maan Hontiveros.
The project partner for EDSA@30 is San Miguel Corp. with MetroBank as project presentor. Sponsors include ICCT Colleges, Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc., Marubeni Philippines, RCBC, Linden Suites, Marco Polo Davao, Filinvest and Cokaliong Shipping.
The project is part of RPDEV’s continuing programs in line with its four main areas of concern, namely, sustainable development, peace in the Asia Pacific region, socioeconomic diplomacy and democratic governance.
