Jeweler’s son gets life for robbery with homicide

The son of a prominent international jeweler was convicted of robbery with homicide on Tuesday.

Calamba City Regional Trial Court Branch 36 Judge Louis Acosta sentenced Jose Bong Panlilio, son of prominent socialite jeweler Fe Sarmiento Panlilio, to reclusion perpetua for robbing and killing half-brothers Ariel de Castro and Albert Gutierrez in 2003.

Acosta also ordered Panlilio to pay each of the families of the half-brothers P100,000 as civil indemnity, P100,000 as moral damages and P100,000 as exemplary damages.

He was also ordered to pay P250,000 in actual damages and P25,000 as temperate damages for burial expenses.

Panlilio’s conviction came even as he served a sentence at the New Bilibid Prisons for a separate case of estafa.
