Take a civil service test and help a poor public school student.
The Civil Service Commission (CSC) will ask examinees to leave behind the pens and pencils they will be using when they take the Career Service Examination Paper and Pencil Test (CSE-PPT).
At least 150,000 examinees take the test, which is given twice a year, with each examinee required to bring a pen and at least two lead pencils.
The next CSE-PPT is scheduled on Oct. 18, with the filing of applications going on until Sept. 3.
For a cause
The agency is planning to donate the used pens and pencils to students in the public schools who may not be able to buy even the most basic of school supplies.
Civil service examinees may hand over their used pens and pencils to the examiner or proctor in the room, who will turn the items over to the CSC’s regional or local examination committees.
“Through this program, we are introducing a more systematic way of collecting and donating used writing materials to children who may not be capable of buying such items for school,” said acting CSC Chair Robert Martinez.
After collecting the pens and pencils, the CSC will identify beneficiary schools and coordinate the donation with the Department of Education.
“Your simple gesture could go a long way in contributing to the learning of less-fortunate students,” Martinez said.
The CSC, through its Examination, Recruitment and Placement Office conducts the Career Service Examination Paper and Pencil Test.
Applicants for the next CSE-PPT exam on Oct. 18 should personally file their applications at the CSC regional or field office in the area where they intend to take the test.
