As Typhoon “Ineng” (international name Goni) moves away from the country, its lingering effect on the habagat (southwest monsoon) caused on Sunday the cancellation of at least nine domestic flights because of bad weather.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said that six flights of the Philippine Airlines (PAL), two Cebu Pacific flights, and an Air Asia Zest flight to Caticlan were cancelled.
The MIAA said the inclement weather caused by the typhoon-enhanced habagat caused the cancellation of PAL flight 2P 2196 from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 to Laoag as well as PAL flight 2P 2197 from Laoag to Manila.
Also cancelled were PAL flights 2P 2084 and 2P 2085 Manila-Basco-Manila; as well as 2P 2077 and 2P 2078 Manila-Tablas-Manila.
Cebu Pacific flight 5J 513 from the NAIA Terminal 3 to San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, and returning flight 5J 514 from San Jose to Manila were also grounded.
Likewise, Air Asia Zest flight Z2 895 leaving from the NAIA terminal 4 to Caticlan was cancelled due to the bad weather.
Typhoon “Ineng,” packing maximum winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 170 kph, is expected by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration to move out of the Philippine area of responsibility by Monday.
On Sunday, public storm warning signal 1 remained hoisted over the Batanes group of islands. Its enhancement of the habagat has been bringing monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, as well as in the Ilocos and Cordillera Administrative Regions and other parts of Northern and Central Luzon.
