All public storm warning signals have been lifted as Typhoon “Ineng” (international name: Goni) continues to pull away from the country, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Administration (Pagasa) said late Sunday afternoon.
Pagasa, in its 5 p.m. bulletin, said that the typhoon has maintained its strength and still packs maximum sustained winds clocked at 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph.
Ineng’s eye was last located 430 km northeast of Basco, Batanes. It is moving in a north northeast direction at 15 kph.
It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday night or Monday morning.
Ineng dumped heavy rain and triggered landslides in Northern Luzon, killing 14 people and displacing thousands.
Meanwhile, Ineng will enhance the southwestern monsoon or “Habagat” which will bring rain over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Ilocos region, CAR and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan and the islands of Calayan and Babuyan.
Pagasa warned residents in the said areas against possible flashfloods and landslides.
