Typhoon “Ineng” (international name: Goni) continued to move slowly as it approaches closer to Batanes-Calayan Group of Islands midday Friday.
Signal No. 3 continued to be hoisted over Batanes Group of Islands and Northern Cagayan including Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The rest of Cagayan, Northern Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra and Ilocos Norte were placed under Signal No. 2.
Signal No. 1 was raised over Isabela, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Benguet, La Union and Ilocos Sur.
These areas under storm signals were alerted against possible flashfloods, landslides and storm surges.
Ineng moved west northwest at 7 kilometers per hour. Its strength remained the same at 170 kph near the center and gusts of up to 205 kph.
A high pressure area has caused the typhoon to slow down, but it is forecast to move faster over the weekend.
Ineng is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday.
