Since 2004, at least four captive or rescued Philippine eagles that were released into the wild ended up dead.
In October 2013, Minalwang suffered gunshot wounds and was found dead in the forest of Mount Lumot in Misamis Oriental barely two months after he was freed.
Hagpa, a juvenile female eagle rescued and released back to the wild in May 2010, was shot dead in October 2011.
In July 2008, a resident of Impasugong in Bukidnon province killed and cooked Kagsabua, a juvenile male eagle which was released back to the wild in March 2008.
In April 2004, Kabayan, a product of artificial insemination, became the first captive-bred eagle to be released into the wild.
He was, however, found dead nine months later after he perched on a high-voltage power line and was electrocuted.
