Public Storm Warning Signal No. 2 has been hoisted over Batanes and Cagayan provinces as Typhoon “Ineng” (international name: Goni) moves toward extreme Northern Luzon.
Batanes Group of Islands and Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands were placed under Signal No. 2, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) stated in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 was raised over Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra and Ilocos Norte.
Ineng maintained its strength as it packs maximum sustained winds of 180 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 215 kph. It is still moving westward at 23 kph.
The eye of the typhoon was located 800 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan or at 815 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan on Wednesday morning.
With its current speed, Ineng is set to exit the Philippine area of responsibility Monday morning.
Meanwhile, an enhanced habagat is affecting Palawan and the Visayas. It is forecast to dump occasional rains over the western section of Luzon, including Metro Manila, beginning Thursday and will last until early next week.
Pagasa cautioned those in the eastern seaboard of Luzon about risky sea travel.
