ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two policemen and a Marine were killed in a shootout in Barangay (village) Labuan here Tuesdaynight.
Labuan village chief Ronald Maravilla said they were still trying to ease tension between the policemen and soldiers following the shootout past 7 p.m.Tuesday.
Killed were PO1 Muhsin Jainul, PO3 Alkashmir Lipae and Marine Corporal Jason Marqueses.
“We want to find out why this had happened,” Maravilla said, adding that the units involved were the Marine Battalion Landing Team 9 and elements of the Regional Public Safety Battalion.
Maravilla said some witnesses claimed that the members of the two units were playing billiards before the shootout started.
Officials from the military and police were still mum about the shooting Tuesday night. (Julie S. Alipala, Inquirer Mindanao)
