The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) will be placed under blue alert on Tuesday evening in preparation for Typhoon “Ineng” (international name: Goni).
“When we say blue alert, the member agencies who are usually on duty will report to the operation center for purposes of monitoring situation of weather developments. At least half of the complement is reporting,” said NDRRMC Executive Director Alexander Pama.
The blue alert would take effect at 6 p.m., hours after Ineng entered the Philippine area of responsibility.
Pama said a red alert status was also possible, where the presence of all NDRRMC personnel was required.
Ineng is the ninth cyclone to enter the Philippines this year.
The state weather bureau said Northern Luzon was likely to experience the direct effect of the typhoon within the next two days.
Ineng will also enhance the southwest monsoon in Palawan and Visayas, with occasional rains over the western section of Luzon including Metro Manila starting Thursday until early next week.
Panahon TV said there was a possibility that Ineng would make landfall over Batanes on Friday morning, but there was also a chance it would recurve and not hit Philippine landmass. Frances Mangosing/RC
