Typhoon Ineng (international name Goni) entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday noon, the state weather bureau said.
Northern Luzon may experience a direct effect from the typhoon within the next two days, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The typhoon will also enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat in Palawan and Visayas.
There will be occasional rains over the western section of Luzon, including Metro Manila, starting Thursday until early next week, Pagasa said.
Panahon.TV said there are two scenarios for the typhoon: It will either make landfall over Batanes Group of Island on Friday morning, or instead re-curve and not hit any part of the Philippines.
Ineng, the ninth tropical cyclone this year, packed maximum sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 205 kph.
It was last located 1,475 kilometers east of Aparri in Cagayan. It also maintained its strength.
