14,000 cops earn promotions

Over 14,000 policemen were promoted to the next rank as part of regular promotions at the Philippine National Police and to uplift morale in the 160,000-strong force.

The mass promotion took effect on Aug. 17 after PNP Director General Ricardo Marquez approved the upward movement of 14,462 commissioned and noncommissioned officers.

The policemen are qualified for this year’s second-level regular promotion program.

A total of 1,521 commissioned officers and 12,941 noncommissioned officers passed the exam and interviews to qualify for promotion.

“The observance of the mass promotion is to give honor and recognition to the newly promoted PNP uniformed personnel, as well as to uplift morale in the police force,” Marquez said in a statement.

Moved one rank up were 84 superintendents, 664 chief inspectors, 554 senior inspectors, 219 inspectors, 1,278 SPO4s, 279 SPO3s, 2,867 SPO2s, 2,543 SPO1s, 2,980 PO3s and 2,994 PO2s.

Director Dominador Aquino Jr. of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management said 36,739 policemen applied for regular promotion.

Each unit and office has its promotion board that processes the applications of those seeking promotions.

“After the rigid process of screening and evaluation, only 14,462 met the qualification standards and complied with the requirements,” Aquino said.
