Former mixed martial arts fighter shot dead in Davao City

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A former mixed martial arts fighter was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants here on Sunday, police said.

Ale Brashare Cale died of several gunshot wounds after the attack in Barangay (village) Ulas village around 10:30 a.m., said Senior Insp. Milgrace Driez, Davao City police spokesperson.

The 24-year old Cale, a resident of Bucana, Davao City, was getting off his Honda Fit car near a hardware along Ulas Crossing when a motorcycle with two men on board stopped behind him, Driez
said.

One of them got off, shot the victim, hopped back to the motorbike and fled in an unknown direction, Driez told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by text message.

Cale, who was known by his moniker “The Young Gun,” fought in the flyweight class and had a professional MMA record of five wins, four via technical knockouts and three defeats, according to MMA website, Sherdog.
