Barangay official links Akrho to failed ambush

The barangay councilor who survived an ambush at New Imus Road, corner P. Del Rosario Extension, Cebu City, at 8 p.m last Tuesday said he believes the attack was related to the 2007 murder of his son, whose death anniversary his family commemorated that same day.

“I have no doubt that this is related to the death of my son.  Maybe those responsible want to silence me,” said  San Roque barangay councilor Bobby Morados in a radio dyLA interview.

He said he had no political or business rivals who would want to kill him.

He pointed to the Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) fraternity   as the party behind the attack.

Akrho hitman Aristotle Aves, who is detained at the Cebu City Jail, is on trial for  the 2007 drive-by shooting that resulted in the deaths of engineer Lawrence Morados and his companions Lord Stephen Vasquez and William John Aznar.

The  shooting, which occurred at V. Gullas, Sanciangko Street and Ascencion Street in barangay Sambag I, also injured Mhako Buenconsejo, Jeffrey Romano, Rendon Pelleren and Rey Gonzales.

Last Tuesday,  the 63-year-old Morados was with his wife Elma on board their Mitsubishi Pajero when the ambush took place.

Five  tanods were following them on board the barangay’s service multicab in a convoy at M.J. Cuenco Avenue from their store in Logarta Street.

Two assailants on a black motorcycle blocked the Pajero.

The backrider pulled out a gun and fired several times at the windshield, hitting the councilor in  his left shoulder.

Morados managed to chase  the gunmen  who fled toward P. Del Rosario area but he lost them.

The barangay official was brought to the Chong Hua Hospital by security escorts of Mayor Michael Rama, who were passing  by when the attack occurred.

Last Aug. 31,  two men on  motorbike tried to shoot Morados while he tended his store in Logarta Street.

But the gun malfunctioned,  giving Morados time to drop  to the ground.  The gun went off and hit a woman instead. With Correspondent Chito Aragon
