Charges have been filed against a policeman who allegedly pointed a gun at fellow policemen who tried to arrest him when he went berserk in Naga City, southern Cebu, last Saturday night.
PO3 Romeo Bolaño was also recommended to undergo neuro-psychiatric evaluation because of several complaints made against him.
“Wherever he is assigned, I’ve been receiving similar complaints about him,” said Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., chief of the Cebu provincial police.
After Saturday’s incident, Bolaño was relieved from his post in Consolacion town and reassigned to the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
Senior Insp. Wilbert Parilla, chief of the Consolacion police, said he and Bolaño also argued in the past when he asked the policeman to explain why he was not in his post and not in uniform.
“I agree that he should undergo the test to find out what really is his problem,” said Parilla.
Bolaño, who was detained at the Naga police precinct, was relieved from the Naga police office last July after he was accused of having an affair with a policewoman. In 2002, he was also accused of running amok and maligning the Talisay City police chief.
Comendador said an administrative investigation against Bolaño has started.
Chief Insp. Timmar Alam, officer in charge of the Naga City police, said charges for grave threats, alarm and scandal, and direct assault were filed against Bolaño last Tuesday.
PO2 Gerome Geromo and PO1 Junarie Latorre also filed charges for direct assault with physical injuries, disobedience and resisting arrest against Bolaño.
Bail was recommended at P42,000.
Bolaño denied that he pointed a gun at his fellow policemen during the incident and threatened to file countercharges as he accused the arresting policemen of mauling him.
