Cashier returns P100,000 cash found inside passenger jeepney

ILOILO CITY—A 24-year-old cashier of a convenience store in Iloilo City returned P100,000 cash she found in a passenger jeepney Thursday morning.

Apple Jean Pineda, a resident of Barangay Rizal Estanzuela, said she had no second thoughts in returning the money.

“Much as I could use the money, it was not mine and I didn’t work for it. So I had no doubts on returning it,” she told the INQUIRER in a telephone interview after she turned over the money in P1,000 bills to television station GMA at Barangay Tabuc Suba in Jaro District.

Pineda said she had just boarded a Jaro-Liko jeepney in La Paz District and was on her way home when she found a transparent envelope with money inside.

She first asked five other passengers if any of them owned the envelope before informing the driver, Randy Dakinay.

There was a name in the envelope but no contact number. Accompanied by Dakinay, she decided to turn it over to the television station.

A businesswoman who said she was going to deposit the money later claimed it at the station.
