About 400 pensioners benefited from the medical services of the Social Security System during the SSS “Pensioner’s Day” last week at SM City Cebu Trade Hall.
SSS Cebu City assistant branch manager Verda Torrefranca told Cebu Daily News this is the second Pensioner’s Day for this year.
Torrefranca said the activity is their way of giving back what is due to the pensioners as part of the government agency’s corporate social responsibility.
Pensioners availed of free medical consultations from resident doctors of different SSS branches.
They were also given multi-vitamins.
Military personnel from the Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) gave free haircut, while reflexologists from the San Nicolas Parish rendered free reflexology services.
Rose Chin, a 67-year-old pensioner, went all the way from Mandaue City to attend the Pensioner’s Day.
Chin said the free services were very helpful for senior citizens like her.
She told CDN that she would attend the event every year.
Some goodies were also raffled during the event.
Ensign Joseph Ison, public information officer of Navforcen, said giving free haircut is one of the unusual services that sets the navy apart from the others.
Ison said it is part of their mandate to extend humanitarian services to the people. /CORRESPONDENT LOISE MATUS
