Former militiaman shot dead in Negros Oriental
DUMAGUETE CITY—Unidentified armed men shot and killed a former militiaman in Barangay Aya, La Libertad, Negros Oriental, on Monday night.
Reports received by the provincial police showed that Jorlan Baylan, incumbent village councilor in Aya, was ambushed by unidentified men armed with high powered firearms about 200 meters from his house.
Police said Michael Himpayan, 31, a member of Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu), and Billy Santa Ana, 44, neighbor of the victim, told the police that they heard six successive bursts of gunfire about 7 p.m.
They went to Sitio Manghuya in Aya to check what happened when they saw the victim lying on the ground beside his motorcycle.
The victim suffered five gunshot wounds on different parts of his body.
Recovered at the crime scene were two live ammunition of 12-gauge shotgun, one empty shell of caliber 45, three empty shells of caliber 7.62 (M-14), one slug of caliber 7.62 (M-14) and one piece of sling holder of unknown rifle.
