Flood victims are increasing in Ayeyawady Region with rice, noodles and medical supplies in urgent need.
The rail link between Hinthada and Pathein has been closed and the Pathein-Yangon road is flooded.
More than 100 villages have flooded in Thabaung Township and more than 55,000 people across the region are in need.
“People are sleeping beside the road. They need rice and noodles. Many supplies are needed. There are thousands of flood victims,” said Ko Htike Htike, who is delivering aid.
Sandbags are being used to bolster a dam in Magyee Lahar village, Yekyi Township.
“We heard that the dam could break. If it breaks, the water will flood the villages. We would have no time to run so we moved to a safer place,” said villager Kyaw Hsan Oo.
The Ngawon River exceeded its danger level by 3.5 feet in Ngathaingchaung Township with no sign that it would fall below the level for three days, according to the Meteorology and Hydrology Department.
