The Philippine Navy will be welcoming its new chief on Monday (Aug. 10).
Rear Admiral Caesar Taccad will assume command of the Philippine Navy on Monday, replacing Vice Admiral Jesus Millan who will retire at the mandatory retirement age of 56.
President Aquino will preside over the change of command and retirement ceremony at the Philippine Navy’s headquarters along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
Taccad is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sandigan” Class of 1982 and is the classmate of the outgoing Millan.
Taccad is the chair of the Philippine Navy’s Modernization Board and was once the Chief Naval Staff. He also used to be the commander of the Naval Forces Northern Luzon.
The Philippine Navy spokesperson, Col. Edgard Arevalo, said the incoming Philippine Navy chief was “very easy to get along with” and soft spoken, almost silent.
“(Taccad) is a very professional officer. He rose from the rank of ensign, going through all the positions,” Arevalo said.
He also described the incoming chief as simple, humble and unassuming.
The spokesperson added that senior officers have expressed confidence that Taccad would be able to pursue the Philippine Navy’s plans and aspirations to transform it from a “legacy navy to a future navy.”
“There are many programs lined up and we live in exciting times. This is very timely for a leader like him (Taccad) because his insights, vision and brand of leadership will definitely bring the Philippine Navy to greater heights,” Arevalo said.
Taccad is expected to call a command conference following his assumption of the post to give out his instructions to his men.
