CEBU CITY—The alleged gunman in last month’s ambush of a businessman was shot dead while driving his motorcycle past 2 p.m. in Barangay Pasil this city.
Supt. Romeo Santander, chief of the Cebu City police intelligence branch, said investigation was still being conducted to determine the motive in the killing of Arnel Gomez, 35, who was tagged as gunman in the killing of Jaime Villaceran, a local businessman, on July 14.
He said Gomez was driving his motorcycle past 2 p.m. when the backrider of another motorcycle shot him several times, including in the head, on Tupas Street in Barangay Pasil.
Gomez was already dead when brought to the Cebu City Medical Center on Natalio Bacalso Avenue.
Santander said Gomez was linked to gun-for-hire activities and drug syndicates. He was jailed several times–the last time was two years ago for a murder case.
Santander said Gomez was identified as the gunman who shot Villaceran on Colon Street in downtown Cebu City in the morning of July 14. He was identified by witnesses through police file photos.
