Batanes, northernmost islands still under Signal 2 and 1

pagasa-satpic-7am-08072015Signal No. 2 remained hoisted over Batanes including Itbayat and Signal 1 over Calayan and Babuyan group of islands as of 5 a.m. Friday, as Typhoon Hanna (international name: Soudelor) continued to move toward the Batanes-Taiwan area, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its latest weather bulletin that Hanna was still packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 200 kph.

It moved west northwest at 20 kph. The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday morning, according to the 5 a.m. bulletin.

Stormy weather with rough to very rough seas will prevail over Batanes group of islands, Pagasa said.

The southwest monsoon, meanwhile, is prevailing over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Monsoon rains, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, will be experienced over Western Visayas and the provinces of Mindoro and Palawan.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected in Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Soccksargen, ARMM, Bicol Region, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, Cordillera, rest of the Visayas and the provinces of Marinduque and Romblon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Pagasa warned fishermen not to venture out in the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, southern seaboard of Southern Luzon and seaboards of Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao.
