DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Several families have been evacuated in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, because of heavy rains spawned by tropical storm “Hanna.”

Adrian Sedillo, executive officer of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), confirmed the evacuation but could not give the exact number of families who have been evacuated since 3 p.m. on Wednesday, as he was still waiting for a written report from Bayawan.

The PDRRMC also received reports of flooding in some parts of Bayawan after the Nangka River overflowed due to incessant rains starting midnight of Tuesday up to Wednesday afternoon.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo reiterated his advice to residents living in coastal areas to take the necessary precautions in case of big waves generated by strong winds and high tides.
