NDRRMC on blue alert due to Typhoon ‘Hanna’
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council was placed under blue alert on Wednesday morning due to Typhoon “Hanna” (Soudelor).
“We advised our [regional offices] to hold a pre-disaster risk assessment and our responses must be on standby,” Lenie Alegre, NDRRMC services chief, said on Wednesday.
Hanna entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday morning. It was dubbed as the strongest cyclone for 2015 but it slightly weakened after entering PAR.
The typhoon is not expected to make landfall but it will enhance the southwest monsoon. Rains are expected in parts of the Philippines in the coming days.
“It will enhance habagat so it is possible that there will be floods and landslides,” she said.
A preemptive evacuation has not yet been ordered but it will be up to the local government units, Alegre said.
