Airport official calls 36 honest workers ‘mirrors’

Honest airport workers were honored on Monday by Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Jose Angel Honrado who described them as “mirrors.”

In a commendation ceremony held at the MIAA administration building, 36 employees were cited for their exemplary deeds. In his speech, Honrado referred to the awardees as mirrors who reflect the “ideal service-orientedness which the airport strives for.” “Every morning, we look at the mirror just to check if we still look as good as Tuesday.

Honest employees are constant reminders that the culture of service and excellence at the airport lives on,” he said. Most of the 36 MIAA employees, who were given certificates of commendation in addition to being treated to a buffet breakfast, had returned valuable items such as cash, gadgets, jewelry and travel documents to passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

One of the awardees, pushcart retriever Porferio Lavado, found a pouch containing P120,000 in cash that had been left in a trolley at the NAIA Terminal 1 arrival area on July 9.

The money was returned to its owner, Chinese national Xiren Wu. Honrado expressed his gratitude to the 36 honest airport workers as he encouraged them to inspire others to follow their example.
