Will Senator Grace Poe make a political sacrifice and run as Mar Roxas’ vice president in 2016?

The neophyte senator on Tuesday said she has not received any “direct invitation” from the Liberal Party to run as Roxas’ vice president in next year’s elections.

But asked whether she is open to running with Roxas, the senator said, “Mahirap namang magsabi kasi wala naman talagang imbitasyon (It’s hard to say because there has been no direct invitation from them).”

Despite the “courtship through media,” Poe said she was not pressured by it.
Stalwarts of the ruling Liberal Party said they are eyeing Poe to be the running of the interior secretary.

Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice has said Poe should “make the sacrifice” and run as Roxas’ tandem in 2016.

Responding to Erice’s remarks, Poe said running for public office is already a sacrifice.

“Alam mo ang sinasabi natin dito, lahat tayo ay dapat magbigay ng sakripisyo. Ang pagtakbo po ay ‘di po yan madali; isa pong sakripisyo ‘yan kung tutuusin (You know, we all need to make sacrifices. Running for office is not easy; that in itself is a sacrifice),” she said.

She, however, said that she is still weighing her political plans come 2016.

“Sa ngayon po kasi, tayo ay nasa punto kung saan tayo ay nagdadasal at nag-iisip ng mabuti (For now, we are at a point where we are praying and contemplating about it),” she said.

The senator said that whatever her decisions, it would be for the good of the public.

“Ang dapat lang namang konsiderahin dito ay kung ano sa tingin ko ang maibibigay ko sa ating mga kababayan (What needs to be considered is what I think I can give to our countrymen),” she said.

The senator, who has topped recent presidential and vice presidential surveys, said she would continue to listen to the sentiments of the people.

“Siguro dapat din nating gawing basehan ano ba ang sinasabi ng ating mga kababayan (We need to base out decision on what our countrymen are saying),” she said.
