A security guard was killed by a robber who used the firearm he had taken from the victim. Police identified the fatality as Rey Abagon, 31, an employee of Capital Security Protective Agency who was assigned at the Jewel 24 convenience store located at the corner of St. Martin and Henry Javier Streets in Barangay Oranbo, Pasig City. A report submitted to the Eastern Police District said the robber, who was unarmed, entered the store at around 2:30 a.m. and pretended to be a customer. He then waited for the other customers to leave before he grabbed Abagon’s .38-caliber pistol. When the security guard resisted, the man shot him in the chest. The robber then emptied the cash register and fled. The guard’s coworkers took him to the hospital but he passed away after a few minutes. PO1 Gabby Capinpin of the EPD public information office said that the police were trying to identify the robber based on the description given by witnesses. Niña Calleja
Muntinlupa reimposes curfew
Noticing a rise in the number of crimes reportedly carried out by minors, Muntinlupa Mayor Aldrin San Pedro has ordered the stricter enforcement of an 11-year-old ordinance which imposes a curfew on the city’s youth. Under the ordinance, those aged 17 years and below are not allowed to roam the streets from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. “All those caught will be brought to Barangay Bayanan’s covered basketball court for booking. [They] will also undergo a lecture there until their parents fetch them,” city information chief Omar Acosta said in a phone interview. Miko Morelos
