I’ll decide on my birthday, De Lima says of Senate bid

To run or not to run for the Senate in 2016? Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said she is hoping that her decision will be firm come her birthday on August 27.

“Sa birthday ko na lang siguro most probably firm na ang magiging desisyon ko,” De Lima told reporters on Saturday.

She said the probability of her running was at 80 percent.

The Justice Secretary is reportedly among those being eyed by the ruling Liberal Party to be included in its Senatorial line up.

On Friday, De Lima was among those who attended  “A Gathering of Friends” in Club Filipino where President Benigno Aquino III endorsed Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as the Liberal Party standard bearer.

“I was invited. So, I went there and I think most of the Cabinet were there. We just want to join that event because the President was there,” she said.

De Lima said Roxas deserves to be the one to continue the straight path started by the Aquino government.

“We all have a stake here. Mga gains ng current administration have to go beyond 2016. Sayang naman. We cannot afford na babalik na naman tayo dun sa mga baluktot na pamamaraan,” she added.

A movement called #Lima2016 was already launched to urge the justice secretary to run for the Senate in the national elections next year. KS
