SENATOR Grace Poe on Friday welcomed President Benigno Aquino III’s endorsement of Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as his chosen successor, saying that she was thankful for being considered as one of the administration’s potential bets.

Poe said she would continue Aquino administration’s “straight path” reform no matter what her role in the 2016 elections would be.

“I thank President Aquino for considering me among those who can continue his vision for Daang Matuwid. I see this as an acknowledgement of my efforts in our shared desire to improve the lives of all Filipinos,” Poe said in a statement.

“I assure President Aquino that I will continue to walk the Daang Matuwid, because I believe it will be made more meaningful if more people continue the journey, wherever they may be and in whatever role they play,” she added.

The lady senator, who is yet to announce if she would seek higher office next year, said she wishes Roxas well.

“I recognize Secretary Roxas has decided to offer himself as a possible president, and I wish him well. I am hopeful that the 2016 election campaign will be one of open discussion of issues and proposed programs of government that will build on what President Aquino has started. This way, the Filipino people can arrive at a clear choice on Election Day,” Poe added.

On Friday, Aquino formally anointed Roxas as the standard-bearer of the ruling Liberal Party during a “gathering of friends” at Club Filipino in San Juan City.

Prior to Roxas’ endorsement, Poe, who topped recent presidential surveys, has met with Aquino several times to discuss the 2016 polls. Earlier, she and Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero mulled the idea of running together as independents next year. KS
