MANILA, Philippines — The estimated cost of damage left by typhoons Pedring (international name: Nesat) and Quiel (international name: Nalgae) has already reached almost P10 billion, with P9.437 billion due to Pedring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.
Central Luzon suffered the most of the damages from Pedring at P7.092 billion, with P6.044 billion worth of destroyed crops.
Executive Director Benito Ramos earlier acknowledged the possibility that the damages from typhoon Pedring might surpass Ondoy’s two years ago.
Combined resources from various agencies in the government have provided about P83 million for relief assistance– P74.8 million for Pedring and P8.7 million for Quiel, the NDRRMC said.
A total of 66 bridges and road sections remain impassable in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon and Cordillera Administrative Region, it said.
The report also said that 115 schools in 20 divisions were still utilized as evacuation centers, it said.
Meanwhile, DepEd Central Luzon will also request DepEd’s quick response fund for the rehabilitation of damaged school buildings and implement make-up classes for affected schools, it said.
Almost three million persons were affected by the twin typhoons which devastated majority of Central Luzon last week, the NDRRMC said.
Seventy-seven were killed from the two typhoons—66 from Pedring and 10 from Quiel, it said.
Meanwhile, 28 were reported missing from Pedring, and one from Quiel, it also said.
