In her dark blue textured terno, Sen. Nancy Binay was an easy target for netizens who gleefully compared her to movie characters “Mystique” and “Maleficent,” among other memes.

But the senator, whose gown at last year’s State of the Nation Address attracted as much ridicule and was compared to the animation character Shrek, a hot-air balloon and a parachute, laughed off the memes and said she was “flattered” by the attention.

“I’m flattered that they are doing memes of me,” the daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay said. “They even researched something close to my outfit (and) made a career out of it.”

In fact, Binay said, her favorite characterization of herself was that of Maleficent, an update on the evil fairy who cast a spell on Sleeping Beauty when she did not make it to the guest list during the baby princess’ baptism.

“Maleficent” had a more interesting story, said the senator of the horned character portrayed on screen by Angelina Jolie. Binay had earlier described her dark blue Randy Ortiz gown as “boring” compared to the panelled gown she wore last year. Christine O. Avendaño
